• life of pi

    on day seventy-nine of delirium
amidst salt water and matted tiger fur
    paradise emerges, green and chittering
    foaming hunger at its edges

Day 20: Write a poem that recounts a historical event.

Although this is not really a real historical event, this is someones imagined fictional historical event and the first thing I thought of! I’ve always been fascinated by this part of Life of Pi, especially when I saw the movie scenes when they first came out. What a fantasy!

  • in my next life let me be a wildflower

on mount rainier, who awakens every July, fresh-faced
to the summer sun beaming in my presence
for the tourists who trek out for this mountain
to -ooh and -aah at the crowd of us
in our prettiest dresses, the new designs
dollops of color on the stretch of green
a feast for the eyes on approach
dancing and twirling and spinning to the wind
to be glorious among the eyes
of all those who pass by me, who think of me
    as beautiful
    as treasured
as something worth trekking across mountains and valleys for
to find happiness in the smallest of things

Day 18: Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem in which the speaker expresses the desire to be someone or something else, and explains why.

Inspired by a trip to Seattle this summer!

  • hi there!

my name is sam. I like cherries,
and sunny days on the playground,
    and rollercoaster rides.

all I want is to be loved. my mom
told me that bears are meant
to be hugged & squeezed & adored.

but it’s been 3 years and I’m still
stuck on this dusty thrift store shelf
    & I don’t know how I got here.

    I think it’s a mistake. I’m not meant
to be here. I watch children
    when they sleep. I blink.

isn’t that what bears are supposed
to do? I want to be adored. I want
to become the baby. won’t you love me?

    aren’t I your greatest dream?

Day 15: We’d like to encourage you to take a look at @StampsBot, and become inspired by the wide, wonderful, and sometimes wacky world of postage stamps.

Obviously, it had to be this one. It was funny and cute but could be really creepy too, and today I was feeling the creepy mood.

  • to simple days

sunny blue skies with a light breeze
forehead kisses between bits of conversation
a view of the rippling lake & swaying trees
I think I like this little life

Day 14: Today’s (optional) prompt asks you to write a poem of at least ten lines in which each line begins with the same word (e.g., “Because,” “Forget,” “Not,” “If”).

Didn’t have much in the inspiration tank to take on the optional prompt today, but I’ve also been out of the game for the last 2 days! Real life has finally won over, but I’m going to try and go back and at least try to “fill in” those days with some more poems. Today was a wonderfully busy day filled with friends and outdoor activities in the sunshine, so I was feeling grateful. I hope it continues for the week!

  • nighttime thunderstorm

the rain pitter-patters my dreams into waking.

Day 11: Today, we’d like to challenge you to write either a monostich, which is a one-line poem, or a poem made up of one-liner style jokes/sentiments.

Almost chose to go to bed today instead of writing, so currently writing in my PJs. Inspired by the rain which will soon carry me to sleep!
